Q.1: What is UGC-Infonet
Digital Library Consortium?
Ans: UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium
has been set up by the Chairman, UGC to promote the use of
electronic databases and full text access to journals by the
Research and academic community in the country
Q.2: Who gets
benefit of UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium?
Ans: The Faculty, Research Scholars and Students of
universities covered under UGC are the primary beneficiaries; however this
scheme will be extended to colleges very soon. The scheme is likely to be open
to other institutions of national importance under its associate
membership after signing MOU with
UGC/INFLIBNET Q.3: Who pays for E-subscription under UGC-Infonet
Digital Library Consortium?
Ans: UGC bears the entire expenses
for UGC funded universities for providing e-Journals access on
behalf of participating universities.INFLIBNET Centre, An IUC of UGC subscribes resources based on the recommendations of National
Negotiating Committee set up by UGC.
Q.4:
What is the subject coverage of UGC-Infonet
Digital Library consortium?
Ans: Consortium covers all the
disciplines viz. Pure Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities
including Management and Languages.
Q.5: How
does this consortium operate?
Ans: The universities have been funded
for connectivity under UGC-Infonet and will have network
connectivity. Individual university will then have unique IP address
through which access is given by the publishers for which
subscriptions made. However entire programme will be Administered,
monitored and maintained by INFLIBNET Centre.
Q.6: Who
decides the journals for subscription under consortium?
Ans: A list of journals and databases are compiled by INFLIBNET
based on the requirement sent by the faculty through their
libraries. Based on this requirement, National Negotiating Committee
identifies the potential resources of scholarly nature time to time
and recommend for subscription under UGC-Infonet.
Q. 7 Where can I get the list of
journals / databases covered under the consortium?
Ans: The list of journals covered in the scheme is updated from time
to time and is available on the INFLIBNET Centre.
Q.8: How can I get the full
text access to journals subscribed under UGC-Infonet consortium?
Ans: Full text Access to Journals can be had either directly
visiting the publisher site or through the Bibliographic databases.Many
of the
Bibliographic databases
will have facility to browse the publications or search as
per your query.
Q.9: How can I get the full
text copy of the journals, which are not subscribed under
UGC-Infonet E-Journals consortium?
Ans: Though many journals are being
considered for subscription under consortium, copies of articles
from many other titles which are not subscribed under the consortium
may be obtained from any participating library through Document
Delivery Service by sending the request.
Q.10: When can I expect to have access to
Journals and Databases under UGC-Infonet?
Ans: The access to all these resources being subscribed are made
available to 50 universities of PhaseI from 1st January 2004. However the activity started much
earlier i.e. from October 1, 2003 when users started getting access
to these resources on trial basis for three months.Since January
2005 universities of Phase II have started accesssing subscribes
resources from January 2006 Phase III universities are given access
on complimentry basis
Q.11: How long UGC-Infonet subscription would last?
Ans: Initially the resources subscribed under the UGC-Infonet
subscription would be available for three years and will be reviewed
after three years for its effectiveness before it can be extended
further.
