Test Your Connection

Test Your Bandwidth

Bandwidth allocated by BSNL as part of UGC Infonet is 10 Mbps(1:1). Many users are complaining that they do not get 10 Mbps speed for download on their desktop. It may be kindly noted that bandwidth of 10 Mbps is guaranteed on the link between your NTE(Netwrk Terminating Equipment such as router,STM switch etc) and ISP's gateway at the rate pf 10 Mbps. Downloading any file from an International level will depend on the traffic on the national and international gateways as well as the link speed to the server. Even though we are glad to list few tools to test your bandwidth. In INFLIBNET Centre, we have tested on the link and screenshots are attached. Popular sites are

How to test your IPs?

Every device connected to the public Internet is assigned a unique number known as an Internet Protocol (IP) address. IP addresses consist of four numbers separated by periods (also called a 'dotted-quad') and look something like 117.105.162.142. Since these numbers are usually assigned to internet service providers within region-based blocks, an IP address can often be used to identify the region or country from which a computer is connecting to the Internet. An IP address can sometimes be used to show the user's general location/university. BSNL allocates 32 IP addresses for each university. This has to be validated by publishers against your university to get authenticated for accessing e-journals. This is a mandatory requirement for accessing e-Journals under UGC Infonet digital library consortium. Many a times it is noted that the IPs are not getting configured for accessing the publishers web site or change the IP without informing INFLIBNET. This will lead to unautheticated access to e-resources, which will eventually lead to user name and password base loging for access. Every Institute assign their own local Private IPs such as 192.x.x.x or 172.x.x.x. ISPs also assign a private IP to their clients on WAN sometimes refer as WAN IP(172.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x) All IPs starting with 192, 172, 10 are privateand reserved for local/private network. This cannot be autheticated for accessing e-resources undre UC Infonet.

Please check your PC with any of the following tools for your IP

If you are not able to access e-resources, please send us screenshot of any of these sites.
