Static dielectric studies on two liquid crystalline polar-nonpolar compounds and their eutectic mixture

Abstract
As a part of our investigation on the liquid crystalline properties of binary mixture of compounds 5-pentyl-2-(42 - cyanophenyl) pyrimidine [CM 7035] and 4-n- butyl-42 -ethoxytolan [PTP4O2], we report here the static dielectric studies conducted on the two pure liquid crystalline compounds and their eutectic mixture. From the phase diagram obtained by polarizing microscopy the equimolar mixture is found to be the eutectic mixture.The variation of the dielectric permittivities εII and ε with temperature has been determined for both the pure compounds and their eutectic mixture at frequency 10 KHz.The temperature variation of the dielectric anisotropy of the eutectic compound has been compared with those of pure compounds.
