Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre is an autonomous Inter-University Centre of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India. It is a major National Programme initiated by the UGC in March 1991 with its Head Quarters at Gujarat University Campus, Ahmedabad. Initially started as a project under the IUCAA, it became an independent Inter-University Centre in June 1996. INFLIBNET is involved in modernizing university libraries in India and connecting them as well as information centres in the country through a nation-wide high speed data network using the state-of-art technologies for the optimum utilisation of information. INFLIBNET is set out to be a major player in promoting scholarly communication among academicians and researchers in India.

About HRD

Imparting training to manpower working in the university and college libraries in the use of IT is an important objective of the Centre and has been given due priority. As on 31 December, 2016, 679 training programmes, workshops and seminars focusing on the library automation and networking have so far been conducted benefitting 53642 participants. INFLIBNET Regional Training Programme for Library Automation (IRTPLA) and User Awareness Training Programme were conducted across the country in collaboration with the universities. National and International Conventions called PLANNER in North-Eastern Regions and International CALIBER in various states of India is being organized in alternate year as part of the human resource development activities. The Centre has also conducted 129 Training Programmes on SOUL Installation and Operations for Libraries.


Promotion of Library Automation and Networking in North-Eastern Region (PLANNER) is a bi-annual convention with a special focus to uplift academic libraries in the North-Eastern region, India in the aspect of library automation and networking.The event is organized by INFLIBNET Centre along with the universities located in the respective North-Eastern States. The convention is a forum comprising of practicing and teaching librarians along with experts and students in the LIS profession who will deliberate upon a wide range of topics based upon the theme that is pertinent to library automation and modernization of libraries.


Convention on Automation of Libraries in Education and Research Institutions (CALIBER) offers a unique opportunity to information professionals and knowledge managers to expand their horizons and extend professional expertise. It is a focused event that addresses latest trends on an important theme and sub themes. CALIBER brings together practitioners and academicians in the field of library and information science and computer science from across the world. Leading experts, IT gurus, and vendors from around the globe participate in the event. CALIBER has proved to be a forum for renowned and trend-setting speakers to stimulate strategic discussions among librarians, information specialists, publishers from all over the country and beyond..
