Abstract : The present study aims to identify the purpose of using e-resources by the faculty members, to compare the use of e-resources with respect to print sources, to identify the relationship between academic productivity, perceived usefulness and convenience of access upon the use of e-resources, computer anxiety and the barriers encountered by the faculty members when using e-resources. Also, to identify the factors that influences the use of e-resources among the faculty members of Arts and Science Colleges in Tamilnadu. The respondent for the study consists of 620 faculty members and samples are collected using stratified random sampling technique by giving due representations to various category. The questionnaire method is used for collecting data from the faculty members of Arts and Science Colleges in Tamilnadu about the use of e-resources. The study revealed that a majority of the faculty members (66.6 per cent) has above average in computer literacy; academic productivity of the faculty members is low in Journals, Books and Projects and satisfactory achievements in Seminar and Conferences; faculty members are aware of e-resources and the purposes of using e-resources by the faculty members are in the following order teaching (65.67 per cent), research (62.87 per cent), administrative duties (51.55 per cent) and contacts for scientific and educational tasks (51.55 per cent); significant difference exists among the faculty members with perceived usefulness of e-resources with print sources; uses of e-resources are more among the faculty members of urban locality than rural; faculty members do not differ significantly with the problems while accessing e-resources with locale, gender, designation and literacy on print sources and differ significantly with availability of Internet at home, age, name of the faculty, years of experience, level of research and computer literacy at 0.05 level; faculty members are facing the barriers while accessing e-resources and the perceived level is above moderate; computer anxiety exists among the faculty members and the level of computer anxiety is high; faculty members do not differ significantly with the computer anxiety with respect to the variable locale, gender, literacy on print sources and differ significantly with availability of internet at home, age, designation, faculty, years of experience, level of research, level of computer literacy and type of research undertaken; faculty members have favorable attitude towards e-resources; and the factors that influence the use of e-resources among the faculty members of Arts and Science colleges are problems in accessing e-resources, personal factors, computer literacy, academic productivity, cost, time, internet access, literacy on print as well as e-resources, faculty, time and attitude. The study also provided some suggestions to enhance the use of e-resources among the faculty members and suggests the viability of e-resource consortia similar to N-LIST e-resources for Arts and Science Colleges.
