Information sources are categorized broadly as documentary and non-documentary sources. Documentary sources are categorized as primary, secondary and tertiary sources depending upon their contents. Primary sources are generally cover research periodicals, technical reports, conference papers, patents, thesis, trade literature etc.
Secondary sources include dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks, almanacs, handbooks, text books, periodicals etc. Tertiary sources include bibliography of bibliographies, directories etc. In addition to the basic sources of information like books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, bibliographies, handbooks, yearbooks etc. non documentary sources like information communication technology (ICT) sources which include Internet, e-journals, e-books, CD-ROM, Databases, Web based information sources are of vital importance in the field of education. These information resources are important due to the explosion of information in all fields of our life. Due to research and development activities in all fields, the information is being updated from time to time and also new innovations are being introduced. These information sources help to update the knowledge. Information Communication Technology sources are mainly important in the operations like acquisition, processing and dissemination of information. The internet is a global network of computers linked together over large distances (Brown, 1998). It was created by the American Military as a means of communication and has been in existence since the 1950s. Until mid to late eighties commercial organizations and educational institutions mainly used the internet. This was due to high costs. The rapid development of technology has seen improvement in communication links and a lowering of costs. The implication of this is that the internet is now more widely available to more people. Since the internet is now available to a wide sector of the population in the western world many educational establishments have seized on its educational potential. The internet is a valuable source of information for students looking for ideas for projects and assignments. With over 50 million web sites on the net the chances are that any information however obscure can be found.
